The Electric Frontier: LifeRush Adventures Wants to Take You Somewhere You Didn't Know You Could Go
A Santa Monica e-bike and adventure company is opening up Southern California's mountains and coastline to people who'd never ride them otherwise.
There's a version of Los Angeles you only reach when you leave the car behind. No 405. No circling Abbot Kinney for parking. No forty-five-minute wait for a table you booked three weeks ago. Instead, you're on a ridge above Malibu with the Pacific spread out below you, and you got there on a bike.
LifeRush Adventures, a Santa Monica guided e-bike and outdoor adventure company, built its whole business around making that easy to reach.
The company started as a way for locals and visitors to see Southern California's mountains and coastline past the usual tourist spots. It runs a fleet of premium full-suspension, pedal-assist electric mountain bikes and pairs them with local guides who actually know the trails. What you get is hard to find in adventure tourism.
"A ride that's exciting without scaring you, and easy enough to enjoy without going dull."
The tour list is worth reading closely. On the easy end, the Malibu Escondido Falls ride mixes paved paths and light single-track with a hike to a waterfall. Intermediate riders can take on the Santa Monica Roller Coaster, a stretch of fire road and single-track through the Pacific Palisades that lives up to its name. And if you want a real test, there's the Dead Cow Suicide Loop in Oak Park: advanced, high effort, all single-track. The name sounds made up. It isn't. You can ride it on a Wednesday.

Beyond mountain tours, LifeRush also runs coastal e-bike rides, Hollywood and Griffith Park routes, paddleboarding trips, hiking tours, and corporate packages for teams who are done with escape rooms. It takes small groups of two to five and corporate groups of up to ten, and every trip gets matched to the group's skill level. That last part counts for a lot when you're about to send your mother-in-law down a fire road above Malibu Canyon.
The bikes deserve a word too. LifeRush runs a 2023 fleet of premium full-suspension e-MTBs, which open up terrain you'd otherwise skip. The electric assist still makes you work. It just lets you cover more ground. You climb higher, drop in faster, and finish the day tired in a good way.
